Message 243 - Posted: 10 Dec 2020, 13:42:35 UTC

Hi folks!

During the next few days we plan to transform the current test project into production. Today we generate last bunch of workunits and after its completion test project will go to shutdown. Production project will have another URL and we will publish it. Also we plan to move statistics of teams and participants, as well as accounts information from test to production project.

All of you are highly welcome to stay with us on the production project!

Awesome! Great progress so far.

By the way, do you plan to keep the project after the finish of the ongoing covid-related research and extend the scope of this project beyond the current research focus?

Well, if all goes well, then yes! We will be happy to continue working for drug discovery against other diseases.

Thats good. A lot of projects start up with a "one off" goal, then disappear when they think they have enough. Other people in the BOINC world may have started team pages with stats etc. then find that their source has suddenly dried up. It would not be a problem if the project said at the outset that it was going to be a short job.
The project here has, for me at least, run trouble free.

Please do so, this would be great! Maybe you can also bring a 32-bit app to us, so the good old WinXP workstations can also do some work.

kind regards

Another URL I think means we'll have to detach and reattach in the BOINC client :(

I agree with the 32 bit app for Windows and Linux but only at the condition it requires very few work to do it. I mean, we all know that the machines with only 32 bit capabilities are very old, often slow and inefficient. Nonetheless, they still can produce valid results and in particular SiDock's workunits seems well-suited for old machines. Few ram required, long deadline, fast execution. Probably even a old Pentium II could do them without missing the deadline. There are many people in the Boinc community who want to use these old machines for Boinc albeit their energetic inefficiency: some do it for sentimental reason, others because these machines are always on doing something else (for example servers) and their cpu can be used for Boinc, others because have only these machines but want to help the same, others have solar panels or other renewable sources of energy otherwise lost, other built space-heaters with Pentium 4 (yes, I read about it :D).
Given the perfect features of SiDock workunits for old machines, I think that if you develop a 32 bit version you could easily gather all the people who used to crunch for other projects that are removing the support for 32 bit, so perhaps some gigaflops. Of course that is a very small amount of power, so my opinion is that you should do it only if it is matter of altering a makefile and type make + enter. In that case, why not? If you have to spend nights on it, debug a lot and so on, then it's not so useful.

Moreover, I also ask you to try not to delete the forum in the transition to the new project url.. it's nice to have the discussion board of the project from its beginning.

Hi!

Any news about the transition?
What is the new url we're supposed to use?
Will it be necessary to use the "Remove" button in the Boinc manager, or will a "Reset project" be sufficient to make the change on the hosts?

Nice weekend 2 U all!!!

Kindest regards,
Gunnar

Yes, we have more vitamin badges! We just need some time to employ them.

Excellent transition.

Now that you are in a Production environment ... Has any thought been given to emailing the Owner at BOINCStats and authorizing him to add the project to BOINCStats.
