Event:
Recently new SidDock@home worktasks are not downloadning when VPN-connection is active. This has worked flawlessly before.

New SidDock@home worktasks are downloaded only when VPN-connection is manually disabled.

Impact:
New SidDock@home worktasks are not started to be computed. This significantly lower the output of completed worktasks.

Solution:
SidDock@home worktasks should be downloaded when VPN-connections are active, as before.

Best regards

Update:
a setting in VPN-client resulted in SidDock@home worktasks downloadning when VPN-connection is active.

Speculation:
It is possible, but not confirmed, this setting in the VPN-client was reset after the VPN-client automatically updated.

---------

In my opinion it would be beneficial if SidDock@home worktasks would download when VPN-connection is active, without having to use specific setting/settings in VPN-client.

Best regards

Update 2:

Event:
With the setting in VPN-client mentioned in my earlier reply, SidDock@home worktasks did not download when VPN-connection is active.

Earlier the same evening SidDock@home worktasks did download with the very same VPN-connection active.

Impact:
BOINC is idle due to no worktasks.
Output of SidDock@home finished worktasks are again significantly reduced for a considerable time-period.

Actions:
1. Closed and shut down BOINC-client completely.
2. Disconnected active VPN-connection.
3. Connected VPN-connection. (No changes in VPN-client settings).
4. Started BOINC-client.

Result:
SidDock@home worktasks downloaded when VPN-connection is active (for now).

Discussion:
I do not know when this problem will occur again. I guess it will occur again.
I would like this problem to be solved.
I humbly ask for responsible staff to kindly answer this post.

---------

In my opinion it would be beneficial if SidDock@home worktasks would download when VPN-connection is active.
Best regards

Update 2.2:
I do not know when this problem will occur again. I guess it will occur again.
It did occur again again, on the very next download of a worktask after completion on previously downloaded worktask.

if SidDock@home worktasks would download when VPN-connection is active.

This is in no way related to "VPN" as a type of technology or connection method.
The problem is either in the software implementing VPN, or in the VPN service provider (if you are not using a Self-Hosted solution), or it is related to local/regional blocking from those IP addresses where you have an exit point from VPN.
Blocking can be on the outgoing traffic side of the country from which your VPN exits, or on the incoming traffic side of the country where the project servers are located.
The project cannot influence this situation in any way.

If your "VPN" software allows it, add BOINC to the exception so that its traffic does not get into the "VPN".
Otherwise, you may need much more effort (with the involvement of a qualified network engineer and/or technical support for the VPN service) in order to establish the actual cause of your problem and find some other solution.

Thank you for your reply.

- I do not have problems downloading in general, and that is why I reported the problem in this forum.
- I also reasoned that if other project-participants were having the same problem, then they would give some kind of feedback.
This has not happened, so I speculate it is not a common problem among the users.
- However - if we assume that what you wrote is true, "The project cannot influence this situation in any way." - then yes, the project can not influence it in any way.

Workaround (kind of):
A kind-of-workaround to this problem is to increase the amount of worktasks that BOINC is allowed to store on the computer.
Positive effect: more tasks in buffert when downloading new tasks are not working.
Negative effect: less time available to complete the tasks within the time/date-limit.

My remarks:
Since downloading is still not working when VPN is enabled, this is the only way to not have significant impact on the output of completed worktasks.
I have tried every setting in the VPN-software. I use Proton VPN and the Proton VPN-client.

I am using Proton VPN without any issues. PM me if you wish to compare settings.
