Dear participants! Just now, your computers are hitting three protein targets at once. Due to the low runtimes and (mainly) the friendly contributions of participants and their teams, the data is being processed fast, and we express our gratitude to all of you. We announce a new competition between teams, SiDock@home September Sailing. Top winners will get the badges: 1st place: 2nd place: 3rd place: Heme B, the well-known ligand in the complex of Hemoglobin, helps to carry oxygen in our bloodstream. As we know today, it has emerged from just two mutations that occurred in genome of one of predecessors of modern vertebrates more than 400 million years ago [1,2]. I tried to enroll my Team In Science We Trust. But since I do not use BAM there's no link for me to join the challenge. Is there another way we can get entered??? |

If I remember right, registration on BOINC Stats can be maded fast. Try to register in 1.5 days before challenge. (After challenge start join also allowed). |

I have a BOINCstats account. I just do not use BAM and that's where they say the link is. |

Some computers may be without tasks we try to increase a number of project service processes. |

Tasks ready to send 147321 :) Please send us some work to crunch. My farm is hungry! |

We increase a number of feeder processes. The number of tasks in "in progress" state began to increase. My computer catch a tasks also. |

My Hosts are running very dry on workunits.. I stopped all other projects to participate in this challenge and seems like 90% of my hosts were just idle during the night with nothing to do at all. EDIT: maybe increase the number of the feeding process by 1000 times, not only by 2 =P |

My computer also. Now we increase a number of transitioner processes (may be next bottleneck). |

Number of tasks in progress increased from 82 to 88 thousands and growing. Looks like bunkers flushing and generate requests for large number of new tasks. |

With the current server settings, tasks are not handed out in sufficient amounts, which makes this race somewhat problematic. Please take a look at these guidelines which my team colleague Yoyo has written down and which we use at Rechenraft.net to manage the competitions taking place with the three distributed computing projetcs which we operate since many years: https://www.rechenkraft.net/wiki/Benutzer_Diskussion:Yoyo/Boincserver_Tuning Michael. President of Rechenkraft.net - This world's first and largest distributed computing organization. We make those things possible that supercomputers don't. |

(One central point of the guide is to reduce the number of tasks in progress. But high utilization of contributor hosts ultimately requires a high number of tasks in progress.) |

Hello Michael! Similar settings and approaches (with other, related to MySQL instance) we use from project birth. Except one - size of task. Size of tasks for targets 6, 7, 8 smaller than Eprot_v1 ~ 15 times. But the tasks for 3CLpro targets are now a priority. We have a Plan B - mixing tasks for 3CLpro with Eprot_v1. But as a see - current situation is much better - 104 thousands "Tasks in progress" at now. |

Database optimisation can help under the right circumstances, but usually, when many hosts request work at the same time, the bottleneck is the scheduler queue. I fully agree that the other points in that guide are just about mitigating the impact on the server (with sometimes debatable success), not about solving the underlying problem. |

Hi guys, let's face the fact that (because of $reasons/$circumstances...) the challenge did not start at 0:00 UTC as planned but rather 2:30 UTC (first successful data import by BOINCstats). Many of us have already reported thousands and thousands of results by then which are all not counted. I'm curious about your thoughts in this situation and the further course of the challenge, especially with regard to the much sought-after "team badges"? Kind regards, walli |

@walli, one thing which is good to remember when bunkering for a contest is to check whether or not the stats site has initialized its tables, and only then report the bunkered results. (I know, hindsight is 20/20.) @hoarfrost, the low limit of tasks in progress of 2 per client CPU, combined with the current small workunit size, obviously makes it difficult for many users to keep their computers busy. Have you considered raising the limit a bit as long as the workunits are this small? |
